Philosophy

Many people who visit Blast from the Past might ask why I created it.  Why would someone put so much time and effort into archiving kid's TV shows from a past generation?  The answer is quite simple.  I first had the idea to put together such a website many months ago when I was looking back at old videos of shows that I had taped off of TV during the early 1990's.  I sat watching these tapes and instantly felt as if I had gone back in time.  I traveled back to a time where I was only nine years old and playtime was the name of the game.  My life revolved around watching kid's shows on TV and collecting action figures.  The only thing I had to worry about was when new episodes of the shows I watched would be airing.  Without the widespread use of the internet, I did not have instantaneous access to TV listings and would make sure to be home and be in front of the TV in order to not miss a new episode.

Everybody experienced the same type of lifestyle during their childhood.  However as time passes, children grow into adults and these lifestyles change.  During this metamorphosis, children abandon the characters from their favorite TV series such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and these once real, superhuman figures become fictitious figments of the past.  They turn into nothing but memories of a time once lived and are often forgotten forever.  But as adults get older and older, there comes a time when they think back fondly at their life in the past and the once forgotten characters from their childhood rise from the ashes and breathe again once more.

This is the reason why I have created Blast from the Past.  I had the power to remember my childhood with the videos that I possessed.  But unfortunately, not everyone has the same ability that I do.  For them, their childhood is a series of jumbled memories that have no way of being put back together.  This website attempts to fix that problem by allowing for the children of the 90's to put together the pieces of their past and reveal a clearer picture of their childhood.  I know for me personally, when I think of my childhood, I picture all the good times that I had playing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers outside with my twin brother, younger brother, and two cousins who lived down the street.  There is no possible way for me to recreate the adventures that we shared because we've aged but every time I watch the theme song to Power Rangers, I can remember them vividly.

Furthermore, I felt that there wasn't any definitive source for 90's cartoons on the internet.  There are many resources for shows from the 80's and for cartoons from today and these websites have inspired me to step up to the plate and try my best to create the ultimate website dedicated to providing information on kid's TV shows from the 90's.  There are many, many shows from the decade of the 90's that have virtually been forgotten and there isn't any information about them that can be found on the internet.  I hope to change this fact and make them become well known once again.

The creation of this website has been an interesting and exciting journey.  I have learned so much information about past shows on TV and about my own past as well.  I've met many amazing people along the way who've helped me accomplish things I couldn't have without them.  When I embarked on this daunting adventure, many people considered me to be absolutely crazy...and I can see why.  The creation of such a website is definitely not an easy task.  Much of the information contained here was covered by the sands of time and needed to be unearthed.  Tracking down new media was and still is a task on its own.  Tapes that I am searching for would be between ten and fifteen years old and many haven't withstood the test of time by deteriorating after excessive playback or degrading by the natural elements.

Nevertheless, finding all of these components to remember the past may be difficult, but the journey to reach the finished product is well worth all the effort.  Every time I talk to someone about old shows, the person's eyes always light up and they smile because he or she is reminded of their own childhood.  Therefore, it is my wish to help anyone who grew up watching kid's TV during the 90's to be able to remember those "good old days" through the text, pictures, videos, interviews, and any other forms of media present on this website.  Remember, the past will always be a part of everyone's life and it should never be forgotten.
